About this deal

More importantly, no one can create the vision that you see inside your head - so it's up to you to put that brush to canvas and show the world what you see! It can help to draw double lines from the photocopy onto the paper in a couple of spots to hep you re-position if necessary. Dark lines are not a problem if you are painting, as you can just paint over them, but the excess graphite will smudge when painted over. I encourage my art students that learning to paint is like a triathlon – you need to be able to cycle, swim and run, but if you try to learn all of these at once, it’s going to be a little overwhelming.

As long as you remember not to drag your drawing hand across the surface, you will achieve a clean clear line drawing. Tracedown Graphite Tracing down paper, available in A4 or A3 packs of Single or Five sheets, supplied in re-sealable plastic pocket with cardboard liner. Simply place one sheet of Tracedown between your design and the surface you want to transfer it to, then trace over the outline. Place – drawing side up – onto your painting surface and draw over the lines with a pencil – HB is the best.Use this fantastic tracing paper to transfer patterns on to many different surfaces including wood, glass, ceramics and many more.

It will not ‘muddy’ or affect the paint applied to it and you can chose a colour that matches in with your Artwork to ensure that it will blend in and not be at all noticeable in the finished piece. It comes in a box, and you tear off the size of sheet you need, similar to rolls of waxed paper and aluminum foil. Alvalyn Lundgren is the founder and principal of Alvalyn Creative, an independent consultancy providing brand strategy design and bespoke illustration for more than 30 years. I occasionally used the grid method, but mostly I pored laboriously over every detail in the original image, endeavoring to replicate the image exactly on the canvas. Develop a design in your sketchbook, then move it to the surface of your choice with the help of our premium graphite transfer sheets. While not the ideal choice for professional works or artworks with lots of transparent paints, especially since the marks takes more effort to erase, it’s a good option for designs where it’s really helpful to have visible outlines. You can transfer your drawings without using transfer paper at all (this method is also shown in the video) if you don’t mind compromising the reverse side of the drawing.

But because it is less messy than graphite paper and leaves a more durable mark, it is popular with crafters. Make sure that the "messy" side of the transfer paper is facing down, towards your canvas, and the "clean" side is facing up. I would not recommend using carbon paper for art-transfer purposes because it's coated with wax which makes it difficult to erase (because the carbon copy was meant to last a long time). If you are transferring extra-large images, pick up a pack of these graphite sheets, which measure 20 by 26 inches. This method works best with drawings on thin ml paper, such as tracing vellum or standard drawing paper. The drawn lines can also be washed out of fabrics and can be wiped from ceramics, glass, tiles and metal surfaces. Place a piece of wax free transfer paper between the image and your paper and simply trace over the outline.

Simplify your art works, reduce the time needed to sketch patterns, and your art time more enjoyable. The first commercially produced transfer paper, Saral paper was developed in the 1950s by Sara “Sally” Albertis, an artist who was tired of making her own. curtisward brings you a hand-picked selection of quality art and craft materials from leading manufacturers.Double-check that the tape on the transfer paper and the tape on the reference photo are tight and secure. Wax free Tracedown transfer paper allows a quick and simple way to copy images by placing one sheet face down between your original and the surface you want the image on and simply tracing over the original's outline (using the same principle as Carbon Paper). Leave one side still taped to the canvas to form a hinge (as in the cupcake example above), so that if you see some part that you may have overlooked, you can try to replace the graphite paper and reference photo and redo that area.
