About this deal

Think Lord of the rings meets bedknobs and broomsticks with a bit of harry potter, echoes of Labyrinth, adventure, creatures and a quest despite Frankie raging it is most assuredly NOT A QUEST.

for me, I think this is a standalone, not sure if the author would revisit the world he created, I hope so. At points I did feel like the author was trying a bit to hard to relate to a younger audience which is why it got a 4 star rating from me but overall this was fantastic. As the most iconic and well-known children’s book brand in the UK today, we are always on the lookout for innovative ways to tell the world’s favourite stories and for brilliant new debut talent and brands that connect with today’s young readers, from newborn up to twelve years old. When their Granda is kidnapped by gnoblins they have to enter a magical realm to get him back embarking on a magical, dangerous and unbelievable tale like the games their parents created. Smiths world building was astoundingly magical and throughout every chapter I found myself transported to Parralelia and I am now a firm member of the fellowship of the bacon roll. I found myself smiling all the way through the book and I absolutely adored the subtle Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit nods throughout, specially the “second breakfast “. Our list includes some of the world’s favourite authors, illustrators and licensed brands, such as Eric Carle, Helen Oxenbury, Nadia Shireen, The Snowman, Doctor Who, Roald Dahl, Tom Fletcher, Jeff Kinney, Rick Riordan, Robin Stevens, and Jacqueline Wilson to name but a few. Whilst trying to find a mobile phone signal, Frankie finds her way into the attic and stumbles across some old maps and books.

The chapters are short, there are diary entries, view points change, overall it is a light hearted adventure read and if you need to drop out of our world for a little while this is a fab one to enter. Heroes perpetually leap from frying pan to fire and there is even a chapter entitled ‘There and Back Again’. Lots of fun lines but a few too many 'aha' plot moments and too many characters (always in groups of five). Frankie did have big plans to watch YouTube and eat pot noodles that weekend but it looks like she’ll just have to go on an epic mega-dangerous quest instead .However, please be aware that it uses a YouTube player and that you should check your school’s permissions to ensure that YouTube isn’t blocked.

Parallelia is a land full of imaginative details and engaging, original characters (notwithstanding the disappointingly stereotypical Princess Prince). From the incredible imagination of Chris Smith - bestselling author and now a major new solo talent - comes an extraordinary accidental adventure for fans of Cressida Cowell and Pixar's Onward . With brilliant place names like Splendidness, Calmwater Bay and Fishsmelling-on-Sea, I hope there will be more adventures in Parallelia to come! She's stuck at Grandad's with her annoyingly nerdy brother Joel for a whole week while her parents swan off to the Arctic. The 103 third parties who use cookies on this service do so for their purposes of displaying and measuring personalized ads, generating audience insights, and developing and improving products.

Smiths world building was amazingly magical, and throughout every chapter I felt transported to Pararellia. So I hadn't heard of this author before but a few of the books I have read recently have been quite dark plus just life in general so this was perfect book coming along at the perfect time.
